Chris Cottingham

Chris joined the patent profession in 2013 from a research position at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. Qualifying as both a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2017, he has a passion for providing practical, pragmatic intellectual property (IP) advice to high-growth technology clients. Chris joined Hindles in May 2020 from another firm of UK Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys to continue to assist businesses to maximise the potential of their IP around the world and drive commercial growth.

Chris has a Masters degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Cambridge. In accordance with the breadth and depth of technical knowledge gained then, and subsequently, he has drafted and prosecuted patent applications relating to sensors, control systems, construction, flow control, medical devices, energy technologies and computer software including graphical user interfaces, signal processing and image processing.

Chris has also advised investors and companies in relation to due diligence for purchase (and sale) of IP portfolios.

In addition, Chris advises in relation to registered design rights, which can often form a particularly significant pillar in an IP protection strategy to protect the visual aspects of a product or service offering.

Chris became a Director of Hindles in October 2022
